Katherine Keller was born in a home that nourished creativity and in a city that celebrated it. In her hometown of New Orleans, she and her two sisters were exposed to their father's love of music and their mother's encouragement to explore creative things. Having to sit quietly in the choir loft of St. Louis Cathedral, where their father sang on Sundays, the girls created art games with murals on the ceilings. Their mother supported their early creative endeavors by letting them sell painted shells, beaded jewelry, and yarn dolls from their "front porch store". Katherine loved art class in school, her Shaeffer cartridge pen with turquoise ink, beautiful stationary and drawing. She and her sister would take the streetcar to their favorite store uptown to buy stationary. Their closet was filled with it. Her love of writing letters lead her to art of calligraphy. As a calligrapher, painter, collage artist and creative soul, she uses her years of experience to teach others how to tap into their innate creativity. Now a McKinney resident, Katherine keeps beautiful paper, envelopes, found objects, fabric, and ribbon scraps and a package of brown paper sacks nearby. That way she and her two sons can always make a quick card, tag, or gift bag.
Cindy Gilstrap is a local gal who lives right here in McKinney, Texas! She has always loved creating! Embellishments This class is going to be super fun! Have you ever walked into Antrhopologie and thought “I really wish my favorite t-shirt from the Gap had those awesome flower ribbon tadooda things on it?” Well now you can make that happen. We’ll play with seam binding, feather felting, and chiffon to make millinery details that you can add to a clothing or accessory item from your own closet. Class Fee: $60.00 Materials Fee: $6.00 BYO: Item of clothing to embellish. I would suggest a t-shirt, tank top, simple cotton skirt, hat or even a bag. You may want to bring in any small vintage pin or charms that have around the house… I bet we can find a way to use them in your project.
Monday July 21 6:30~9:30pm
Glitterati Letter Once again, we will be using Cheryl’s fantastic stash of German glass glitter to make one very swanky initial for your wall or shelf. Supplies will be available to paint your letter in cream or black with silver glitter…however, if you want to get a little more colorful you are welcome to bring your own paint color and purchase a bottle of colored glitter downstairs. There are tons of beautiful colors to choose from! If you are a fast worker you can probably make more than one letter. Each additional letter will be $8.00. Please note I may not have every single letter of the alphabet available at class time so it is important that you register early for this class and let us know which letter(s) you will be using. Class Fee: $45.00 Materials Fee: $6.00
Saturday July 25 1:30pm ~ 4pm
Grotto Shell Cross In this class we will cover a cross with Grotto Style Shellwork. Grotto Style Shellwork is very rustic and full of texture. You can create formal repeating patterns and designs with the shells or you can just pile them on haphazardly; either way you will be going home with a great piece of wall art. Super easy and so much fun to do… you’ll probably go home and turn your powder bath into a shell grotto! Class Fee: $60.00 Materials Fee: $9.00 BYO: We will have plenty of shells available at the Studio for you to use but if you have some of your own that you would like to include bring them.
Monday July 20 10am ~2 pm
Memoryware Letter Memoryware is so much fun to do… easy, fast & anything goes! It is to mosaics what crazy quilts are to quilting. We will cover the top of letter (approx. 8”) of your choice with practically anything you want as long as we can make it stick & get it done before the mortar dries. The idea behind Memoryware is to take all of those little bits and pieces of your life that you have tucked away in the bottom of drawers and boxes and combine them in one fantastic piece of folk art. We will have plenty of shells and broken bits of china available from the Studio China Pile for you to use on your project but you must bring in your own trinkets to make it your own! The materials fee only covers one letter but I will have extra available for an additional $9.00 per letter. If you work fast you could spell out a word! This project makes a great graduation gift. Class Fee: $60.00 Materials Fee: $9.00 BYO: Coins, watch faces, marbles, game pieces, tickets, keys, charms, pet tags, shells, old jewelry, baby teeth, stones, doll parts, etc. Bring them if you’ve got them: Safety goggles, Tilenippers

Tinsel Style Cage Dolls or French Inspired Santos/Angels
Every girlie loves paper dolls and every big girlie loves cage dolls, also known in Europe as a religious idol. I have combined the two and created a tinsel style cage doll, beautifully decorated and hand creped with vintage style crepe ruffle, smoldered tulle, Victorian scrap and generously adorned with German crushed glass and vintage style millinery. A creative soul can't resist the temptation of giving the gift of beauty.
