Katherine Keller was born in a home that nourished creativity and in a city that celebrated it. In her hometown of New Orleans, she and her two sisters were exposed to their father's love of music and their mother's encouragement to explore creative things. Having to sit quietly in the choir loft of St. Louis Cathedral, where their father sang on Sundays, the girls created art games with murals on the ceilings. Their mother supported their early creative endeavors by letting them sell painted shells, beaded jewelry, and yarn dolls from their "front porch store". Katherine loved art class in school, her Shaeffer cartridge pen with turquoise ink, beautiful stationary and drawing. She and her sister would take the streetcar to their favorite store uptown to buy stationary. Their closet was filled with it. Her love of writing letters lead her to art of calligraphy. As a calligrapher, painter, collage artist and creative soul, she uses her years of experience to teach others how to tap into their innate creativity. Now a McKinney resident, Katherine keeps beautiful paper, envelopes, found objects, fabric, and ribbon scraps and a package of brown paper sacks nearby. That way she and her two sons can always make a quick card, tag, or gift bag.
